City Tour - Madrid

We are in Barcelona, however needed to catch the blog up.  Free internet at the hotel here is only for 30 minutes.  To pay by the hour is very expensive!  But I digress...let the city tour begin.

Institute of Cervantes

Metropolis (Superman may or may not be here)

Church of San Jose

View of the Park on the Paseo del Prado

Statue of Goya outside the Museo del Prado

Woohoo!  No lines outside the El Prado Museum.
(Later that day we drove by and saw lines several blocks long.
Come to find out, admission is free from 6pm-8pm.)
No pictures allowed inside the Museum so we had to settle for these outside.

Artists whose work is in the museum.

More artists whose work is in the museum.
Continuing the city tour, this time on the bus, with a guide.
View of Gran Via (one of the main roads in Madrid)

Statue of Columbus

Gates of Toledo (former entrance to the city)

Palacio Real

Puerto Sol and the peaceful revolutionaries.

Atocha train station

Plaza Espana
It was after this bus tour we headed for the bullfights.

We really enjoyed our time in Madrid.  It was large enough to offer a variety of sights and eating opportunities without being overwhelmed and small enough to get around easily (and safely) by walking.

One thing we've noticed is there don't seem to be too many (if any) overweight Spanairds.  :o)
