King me!

Ok, that phrase is usually reserved for playing checkers, but it is very apropos for today's fishing adventure.
After looking at all the different websites:  weather.com (for rain), marine forecast (for the winds and seas), solunar calendar (for the major and minor times), we decided we'd head out somewhere between the crack of dawn and high noon.

We knew it was going to be hot and we planned accordingly.  Since we were leaving  later than usual, we would stay out longer.

We went to one of the usual bait stops (reefs) and had to work a little bit, but pulled in about a dozen fat greenies (aka fish candy).

The winds had been coming out of the east for the past few days which meant everything should have been pushed in closer and we wouldn't have to go out as far or to depths we sometimes do.

We set things up to drift and drifted for quite some time before we changed location.  We got the baits out and saw a free-jumping sailfish about 100 feet from the boat!  But, we just couldn't interest it in our baits.

A few more hours and drifts passed.  During that time, we had a couple of our baits stolen.  And it wasn't just the bait fish that went missing, but the hook too!  This was a good sign....at least there was life below!

Finally, we saw some action from one of our baits.  Frank was quick on the draw and was able to get that fish to stick.  After a little bit of a fight, we got it into the box!

Not our usual catch, but it was a good sized kingfish.  And Frank's got just the recipe for smoked fish dip!

Boat name leads to a pondering question

Yesterday, I noticed a boat for sale.  The name on the side was "ASSIGNMENT".
In my out-loud voice (vs the one in my head) I said, "That's a pretty clever name for a boat.  You know if someone was playing hookie from work and the boss called, the person could say, 'Oh, I'm out on assignment.'"

So that lead me to think, why do people say:
"I'm ON the _____ (substitute boat, train, plane, bus, subway)."

But when it comes to cars people say:
       "I'm IN the car."

I mean, I understand about being ON a boat because 9 times out of 10, it's open and you're standing/sitting on the deck.  And I understand about being IN a car because it's enclosed but a train, plane, bus and subway are also enclosed and people say ON.

Any grammarians out there to answer my question?

In the perfect world....

....this post would say:
  • Left the dock very early this morning.
  • No stopping for the railroad bridge!
  • Smooth waters with a gentle breeze and a bit of shade.
  • Found the perfect bait on the first try and loaded the live-well.
  • Headed off-shore and caught big dolphin right off the bat.
  • Drifted around the entire Atlantic ocean with bait-candy, catching dolphin, cobia, sailfish and wahoo.
  • Reached our limit and headed in.
Alas, this is not a perfect world!  But two out of the above ain't bad.  :o)

Have they fallen off the face of the earth??

No, but we have been busy.  If we were the type to Tweet our updates, it would probably look something like this:

 - Returned from Spain trip.  Did three weeks worth of laundry.  Created photobook from trip in one day to take advantage of a special deal.  Caught up on mail, bills, doctor appointments and chores.  Was reminded what grocery shopping and house keeping is all about.
 - Attended a very fun 60's-themed neighborhood birthday party.
 - Trip to Tallahassee to buy vehicle that will tow and can be towed.  And to visit Ron & Lynne before he starts his treatments.
 - From Frank:  Spent a few days in Stuart.  Got the boat out of storage and into the shop for annual service.  Decided to have bottom repainted while it was out.
 - From Leann:  While Frank in Stuart, attacked project list in Tampa including replacing faucet in one of the bathrooms (with 3 trips to Home Depot).  Scrubbed lanai inside and out.  Found the tribe of pygmies living in the front flower bed.
 - Checked on status of TeePee.  (Has been in shop for 2 months for new TVs, some minor fixes and installation of contraption in order to tow vehicle.)  Required multiple trips.
 - Day trip to visit Frank's mom to organize, have lunch and take care of some banking.
 - Numerous hours spent planning for the not-too-far-away football season.  TeePee will be in Tallahassee for home games, but there are 3 games (including a bye week) where we will be on the road!  This will be a true test of our relationship!   Four weeks starting and ending in Tallahassee, with stays in Clemson, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Rock Hill, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh.
 - Back to Stuart to put the boat back in the water and take advantage of the weather to fish.

So there you have it.  Nothing picture-worthy, but an update of what's been happening since the last post.

Following our lead?

Hmmmmm, I wonder if The Royal Couple has been reading our blog since one of their activities while visiting Canada was a cooking class?

I'd like to think we've started a trend when visiting another country (a la the cooking class we did in Barcelona).

Just sayin'.....
