On to Myrtle Beach we go!

Before leaving Charleston, we decided to get the TeePee in to have the furnace and heater checked.  A cold front was forecasted for the area, and we are heading farther north over the next few weeks.  It checked out A-ok and after a fuel stop, we were on our way to Myrtle Beach.

Neither of us has been here so we were looking forward to exploring this area.

A few observations along the way:
Our route took us past Charleston-Southern University.
(Their football team came to play FSU a few weeks ago in Tallahassee.)

We were really looking forward to a few quiet days in Myrtle Beach.  A relatively empty campground,  time on the beach and exploring the area.  We didn't know anyone here so we wouldn't have to worry about entertaining or coordinating schedules.  However, as we got closer to MB, we saw lots of signs "Welcome Bikers".
Turns out, it's Bike Week in Myrtle Beach.

No worries.  It will all be over Sunday and we'll still have a day here to enjoy some quiet.
We were able to select our spot in advance and got one about 100' from the beach!

The afternoon before the coldfront.
(Bathing suits and shorts kind of weather!)

Nothing like enjoying the sunset on the beach.

Somehow we came across an edition of Garden & Gun magazine (no, we are not subscribers).  And there was an article on the 100 Southern Foods.  We read through and identified places we were going to be near on our road trip adventure.
Scott's BBQ in Hemingway, SC
(about an hour or so outside of Myrtle Beach)

The menu/price list as well as RULES!

Rib eye sandwich, 1/2 chicken, 1/2 pound pork...all with good ol' white bread.

There is nothing fancy about this place at all.  While there were a few tables/chairs inside, we decided the weather was so nice we'd set outside at the picnic table and eat our lunch.  (Yes, I said "set", 'cause we are in the South and that's what you do here.)

On our way to Scott's, we noticed a green sign (like a city sign) that said "Tupperware".  We commented we didn't realize there was a town named Tupperware and kept moving on to find the BBQ place.

After lunch, we traveled south (rather than retracing our steps the way we came.  We made a turn and sure enough, there was THE global headquarters of Tupperware!  Right there in Hemingway, SC!

Our travels took us across the Intercoastal Waterway and we wondered if our buddy, Captain Pete traveled through there on his way to Long Island.

Intercoastal Waterway at Waccamaw

We made a slight detour to Pawley's Island.  We knew of this place because we have a couple of the "world famous" hammocks, but had never been here.
Very pretty marshland, homes and the beach.

Where the Pawley's Island hammocks are made.

MB kind of reminds us of Daytona Beach.  Lots of restaurants, sports bars, kitschy/touristy beach shops, goofy golf and water parks.  Can only imagine how crazy things get during spring break and when summer starts.

So, unless anything else exciting happens while we're in Myrtle Beach, this will be the last post for a while.  (Internet here is uncooperative at times and we are hoping for a few days of relaxation.)

Next stop, Rock Hill for a few days and then crossing one more state line as we proceed on to Winston-Salem, NC.
