Day 1 of the Wild West Trip went off without a hitch! (The Denver airport, while lovely, is spread out and seems like it takes forever to get from the terminal to baggage claim to car rental.) But the weather was great and the car was just what the Boss ordered. Soon enough we were on our way, heading south.
Our first stop was the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Frank served in the Air Force many years ago and knew a few people who had been through the Academy. So, while in the neighborhood, we thought we'd visit.
What an amazing setting! 18,500+ acres surrounded by mountains! Just beautiful.

Um, I thought their mascot was a falcon....these look a lot like geese to me.
Not quite Doak Campbell.
But the setting is beyond compare!
Frank and I have both been members of USAA for a long time.
Prior to departing, Frank posted on Warchant a request for recommendations of sites to see and places to eat. Rudy's was mentioned several times. Fortunately we were familiar with it as we were introduced to Rudy's when we went to Norman, Oklahoma for the FSU vs OU game a few years ago.
Some brisket, pulled pork, potato salad and coleslaw. As tasty today as it was a few years ago!
Preview of Day 2 - Pikes Peak Summit via the Cog Railway and then on to Montrose.
