This morning we had a leisurely departure from Montrose, initially heading for Arches National Park. But a C.O.P (change in plans) after talking with the helpful fellow at the Visitor Center. After sharing our game plan outloud, we decided we'd visit Canyonlands today. That would give us a few hours tomorrow to visit Arches before heading toward Flagstaff.
Here are a few pictures from our travels westward, across state lines:
Entering Grand Junction
Another "could have been us". Have seen a few motorhomes, but not as many as we thought.
Just another pile of rocks
While we've been traveling, I've commented several times that I don't think I would have wanted to be a pioneer or settler when they were making their way across the country. Can you imagine the terrain and conditions back then? No rest stops or drive-throughs, not to mention no paved roads and only traveling 30 miles per day (maybe).
Crossing the line!
Entering Moab, UT.
The beginning of the Canyonlands.
All those layers!
I think it was at this point where I asked Frank, "Where is your sense of adventure?" as I walked toward the edge of one of the lookout areas to see what things looked like. :o)
View of the Merrimac and Monitor from a different side.
First sign of wildlife
Again, more layers!
A different kind of lizard
Free range cows
The word we kept using to describe our experience today was "AMAZING!" We also found ourselves saying, "Wow!" quite frequently. Awe-inspiring, thought-provoking, beautiful! (And we haven't even been to the Grand Canyon yet.)
We have experienced cool mornings, blue skies, blustery winds and warm afternoons. Hopefully this weather will hold for our entire trip.
Day 4 - Arches National Park and even more splendid sights are anticipated!
