Frogs, Football, and Friends

This was THE weekend we had been looking forward to since the last time we saw the FSU Seminoles play at the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta.  It was the Spring Garnet and Gold game!  And it was our way of getting a little college football fix in the middle of the year.

We stocked the TeePee and headed north to Tallahassee.  We made arrangements to spend the night in Ocala as there were a few things we needed to do (i.e. fill the fresh water tank) in preparation of "dry camping" for the weekend in Tallahassee.  (The only connection at the stadium is electric - no water and no sewer.)

As we were driving along, a little head peeked out from behind the passenger side mirror!  Needless to say, I was a bit startled and I think he was too!

Who knows how long he's been living there.
Maybe Toivo "The Frog Whisperer" left him there since our visit in Naples.

Hanging on for dear life!
We were going about 65 MPH and he really should have just stayed in his hiding place
Since we took possession of The TeePee, Frank has handled all of the driving (and done a fine job of it!)  But, he wanted to give me an opportunity.  We had a stretch of highway that was pretty straight and had about 30 miles between (easy-off, easy-on) rest stops.  Ok, I can do it!
This was taken about 5 minutes after I go onto the highway.
It has been noted that I have a very serious look of concentration and white knuckles. (Um, you would too if you were driving a 40 bus/truck/house on wheels!)

Now, to address comments/questions regarding the white towel.  Yes, I was nervous and anxious about driving, even though we had been to driving school.  But, no, I was not so afraid of driving that I needed a "piddle pad".  And no, I was not scared "sh*tless".  It was the closest thing we had on hand for the previous driver who had been wearing shorts and his legs were sticking to the seat.   But thank you all for your concern and sensitivity.  :o)

The nice thing about having the TeePee to travel and tailgate is we can bring
the whole liquor cabinet with us, not just our game-day travel bag!
It was an easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy drive into Tallahassee and the parking lot across from the stadium reserved for motorhomes.  We selected a spot that fit the bill:  flat/level, concrete (vs grass or gravel), not on the main road.
The TeePee is all ready for the weekend!
One of the objectives for the weekend was to scout the motorhome parking lots and determine if there was an area we wanted to have for the season.  (You have to factor in things like sun/shade, grass/gravel/concrete, proximity to the roads and the Palace, etc.)
There weren't many motorhomes that came this weekend.  But we got to meet lots of new people, some who have had their MH less time than we have.
Another flat, concrete area just above where we were.  (A possibility for future parking.)
We were pretty excited to learn the Ruggeri's were going to be up for the game.  Their condo is just down the street from the motorhome parking so hopefully this season we'll get to see each other a little more often since we'll be so close.  Knowing we wouldn't have a car with us, Jon generously offered to be our chauffeur for the downtown festivities on Friday!

Lots going on Friday evening downtown and we primarily spent our time at the Booster event.

Yummy oysters, shucked right before your eyes!

We tailgate, thank you very much.

Early Saturday morning, a big storm came through Tallahassee.  And actually, it turned out to be a good thing so we could see what areas of the parking lot flooded, were squishy, etc.
No too bad.
And Jon was so kind to loan us his car!  Thanks, Jon!!

Saturday morning, the skies cleared and it was a beautiful day for football!  Lots of people on Lanford Green with lots of activities.

Since it was the Spring Game with open seating, we opted to sit in the box.  (We are used to being on the other side so it was a little odd seeing the logo upside down.)
Teams getting ready!

Coach Fisher's youngest son who getting ready to undergo treatment for an undisclosed medical condition.
He came out on the field with his dad and was high-fiving with the players, having fun!  :o)
We also got to catch up with the Villellas!
Leann, Lynne, Frank and Ron

Great turnout!  (Some reports have said just shy of 54,000 in attendance.)
After the game, we met with with Christopher and Keith.  (Keith offered so many helpful hints, tips and advice when we were looking for the motorhome!)

It was a great weekend in Tallahassee and trial-run (sans full set up for tailgating) for football weekends in the fall!

Sunday morning we packed up and headed south toward New Smyrna Beach.  Frank's brother, Richard, lives nearby and hadn't seen the TeePee yet.
Heading into Jacksonville.
We had a reservation at the New Smyrna Beach RV Resort.  What a great spot!  Very shady (as in not sunny), concrete pads, pull-through sights and all the amenities.
Rich joined us for cocktails at the coach.
Again, not having a vehicle with us, we relied on Rich to chauffuer us to dinner.  And generously left us with a car as we decided to stay an extra day here to get some things done on the TeePee.  (Thanks, Rich!)

It's been a great trip, saw lots of people and we got alot accomplished!
