Driving around the Lake

There are a few roads that follow the circumference of Lake Tahoe and we thought that since we'd never been there, it would be a good way to see the sights, including the lake from different areas as well as the towns that make up the area known as "Lake Tahoe".

We enjoyed great weather (cold but clear blue skies) on the 72 mile trip around the Lake.

Morning view from the hotel.

A few more pictures of the lake from our room as the sun started to come up.

Heading north on HWY 89 toward Emerald Bay.

When we arrived at the parking area for Vikingsholm, there were some people at the top of one of the rocks flying a remote controlled plane.  It buzzed all around, high and low.  (And the guys looked like they were having lots of fun.)  After we finished with our photo ops, we returned to the parking area to see that the plane landed.  It was more than a couple of guys having fun....it's a company that makes these planes and incorporates various pieces of technology including a camera, GPS, batteries, etc.  This gentleman from Team Black Sheep was very patient and answered a lot of questions from people that stopped to see what was going on.  We were hoping that by the time this post was done, they would have uploaded the video from their adventure at Vikingsholm.
We continued on toward the north part of the lake.

Lake Tahoe is divided in half by the California-Nevada border.  This hotel (the Cal-Neva) was where Marilyn Monroe supposedly visited the night before she died.

What better way to enjoy a post-drive around Lake Tahoe than with a humongous cheese-fruit-cracker plate (more like platter) and bottle of Mumm sparkling wine from Allison and Andrea.  :o)

Sunset over Lake Tahoe:

When we checked in, the bellman suggested a quaint French restaurant not too far from the hotel, Mirabelle.

French Onion Soup and house salad

Chicken and pasta (top), Prawns Provencale
A scrumptious souffle with Grand Marnier sauce

After dinner we returned to the casino as we still had some of 'their' money left to play with.  :o)  Stay tuned.....the next chapter in the adventure takes us from Lake Tahoe to Medford, OR.
