Time in Kennebunkport

Prior to our arrival, we arranged for a scenic tour by boat on the waters off Kennebunkport.  We weren't scheduled to depart until 11:00 so that gave us some time to walk through the bustling metropolis of Kennebunk/Kennebunkport.  Yes, they are two separate towns.

Such a charming little town!  But a bit on the touristy side.

Once we boarded, we headed out towards the inlet.  Our captain pointed out the marina where former President G.W. Bush's boat is docked, along with the manned Secret Service boat.  (Interestingly, this same boat ran aground a few weeks ago on the beach right off the inlet:  http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20100715-NEWS-7150336)  Oops!

We had a lovely tour of the McMansions (ahem, summer cottages) that line the coast.

And we got to see the Bush Compound on Walker's Point (below).

Our captain showed us how the lobstermen bring in their traps and also learned a bit about lobsters too.

There is an area where the harbor seals hang out.

On our way back in, I wanted to get a better picture of G-Dub's boat and the Secret Service boat (since Frank's nephew is in the Secret Service). Low and behold, who should we see walking to the boat with her entourage, but Laura Bush! She was very nice and gave our gaggle of tourists a wave.  (Click to enlarge the picture.  Laura is to the left, and has on the white shirt/black pants.)
And speaking of lunch, Frank's been anxious to have clam strips. We made our way back to Ogunquit and Mike's Clam Shack. Apparently it's been renovated recently as it wasn't quite a shack anymore. It was f-a-n-c-y!

But we were able to check off three more food items on our list:  clam strips, lobster roll and clam chowder!

Tonight, Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School and a trip to Portland tomorrow.
